- Position: Team leader for the Productivity and Production Pay for Performance Program (P5)
- Vision: Replace dozens of spreadsheets and poorly-designed standalone databases with a single database that integrates and improves the documentation tracking, product standards maintenance, productivity reporting, and employee performance tracking systems for all production divisions at all Apotex sites in the Toronto area (several hundred employees)
- Challenges: In addition to maintaining and analysing a vast quantity of business-critical data, the database was required to be self-sustaining, performing data maintenance tasks automatically
- Design: Determined the required and desired functionality by meeting with representatives from all user groups; GUI designed with a user-centred, consistent approach
- Development: Built database with an extensive use of VBA, allowing users to perform all maintenance tasks through front-end screens; implemented several features to address the unique needs of a wide variety of different users, including dynamic graph- and SQL-generation algorithms, which allow users to create their own graphs and reports using front-end screens
- Management: Held biweekly design team meetings to ensure the final product met the required specifications; oversaw the transfer of data from existing spreadsheets and databases
- Results: Delivered final product on time; exceeded user expectations; in use since January, 2005
